Ordinal numbers (números ordinales)

1st to 10th (del 1º al 10º)

first [fɜrst] - primero/a

second ['sɛkənd] - segundo/a

third [θɜrd] - tercero/a

fourth [fɔrθ] - cuarto/a

fifth [fɪfθ] - quinto/a

sixth [sɪksθ] - sexto/a

seventh ['sɛvənθ] - séptimo/a

eighth [eɪtθ] - octavo/a

ninth [naɪnθ] - noveno/a

tenth [tɛnθ] - décimo/a

Pay attention to fifth [fɪfθ], sixth [sɪksθ], and eighth [eɪtθ]. The consonant clusters at the end are difficult to pronounce. Practice them slowly.

11th to 20th (del 11º al 20º)

From 11 to 20, all ordinal numbers end in -th:

twelfth [twɛlfθ] (12th) - décimo/a segundo/a

thirteenth [θɜr'ti:nθ] (13th) - décimo/a tercero/a

fifteenth (15th) - décimo/a quinto/a

sixteenth (16th) - décimo/a sexto/a

seventeenth (17th) - décimo/a séptimo/a

eighteenth (18th) - décimo/a octavo/a

nineteenth (19th) - décimo/a noveno/a

twentieth (20th) - vigésimo/a

21st and above (del 21º en adelante)

From 21 onwards, numbers ending in 1, 2, or 3 keep the first, second, third form. The rest end in -th:

Usage (uso)

Ordinal numbers are very common with streets, avenues, and floors:

🔹 Los números ordinales son muy comunes con calles, avenidas y pisos:

My apartment is on 5th Avenue. (Mi apartamento está en la Quinta Avenida).

The store is on 42nd Street. (La tienda está en la calle cuarenta y dos).

Our room is on the third floor. (Nuestra habitación está en el tercer piso).
